Hawaiian Delight…

February 17th, 2010. The man, the wife, and the boy set off. They set off to a far away land. A far away land that is only accessible by plane, or boat, or submarine. But they choose to access it by plane. The time of their departure, 10:30 am. The estimated travel time: 6 hours. Their arrival time: 2:30, island time. It is a vacation, 10 years in the making. It is much needed, almost desperately so.
The boy is angelic on the flight to the Island known as the Big one. He eats, he sleeps, he plays. Nary a fuss comes out of the young boy, not even 1 year old. He is contented to play with three plastic drinking cups, provided by the flight attendants. He entertains himself, with these cups for what seems like hours. His mother, the wife, never feels the need to dip into her enormous bag of travel toys, books, and baby accoutrements.
When their lunch arrives, spinach and cheese manicotti, the boy shares it with his mother, the wife. He seems to enjoy the bland airline fare. He especially enjoys the decadent chocolate cake that finishes off the meal. The boy is happy as a clam. So happy, in fact, that he impresses his fellow travelers. At the end of the flight, the wife receives a complement that makes her little heart flutter. “You have quite the well behaved little boy.” Comments an older gentleman. “Thank you.” Replies the mother and wife.
The dad, the mom, and the boy arrive, weary travelers, ready to soak in the sun. Ready to relax. Ready to have fun. They are greeted at the Kailua-Kona airport by the grandma. She is overjoyed to see the man, the wife, and the boy. Mostly the boy. She bestows the man and his wife with plumeria leis. She crowns the boy with his very own crocheted lei. Then, she whisks them off in the car that she and the papa had rented for the wee little family. They follow her Sidekick back to the little villa, overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean. It is a welcomed site for the exhausted man and his wife and babe.
They set out to enjoy 12 GLORIOUS days of fun, sun, card playing, outdoor church going, snorkeling, dolphin playing, whale watching, long road tripping, beach going, coffee drinking, pool swimming, amazing vacationing.
The boy had the best time. He got to swim in his little pool, play with his little fish, have all of the man’s attention, all of the wife’s attention, all of the grandma’s attention, all of the auntie’s and all of the uncle’s attention. The boy was spoiled. The boy was happy. The boy slept well, he ate well, he played well. The boy didn’t want to leave (well maybe that is just the wife projecting her feelings onto the boy). But the boy was content.
The man, his wife, and the boy (who doesn’t realize it yet, but in time will come to relish it) decide that this is a trip that they MUST take annually. And who wouldn’t? When all the vacation requires is airfare and food, who wouldn’t come to this glorious island to recharge their batteries, and enjoy quality time with their wee little family? Forever and Always!!
See you next spring, Big Island.

Goodness, where do I even start…

There has been a lot going on in our lives. I wish that I could be one of those anal retentive, well put together, tidy, clean, everything gets done on the deadline, kind of busy moms. But that is so far from my reality. I am a scatter brained, terrible house keeping, fun loving, go with the flow, come what may, only the stuff I get paid for is done on the deadline, kind of busy mom. And with that comes neglected blogs, piled up dishes in the sink, mounds of dirty (or heck, even clean laundry), millions of things still to check off the check list, unfinished projects in the corner, and a whole lot of catch up to do. So without further ado:

I’ve Been Sick…

Like super sick,. Max is the carrier. He’s our little outbreak monkey. He got us all sick, and now I cannot get rid of it. Boo…
That is my excuse for not writing. I have the cold from HELL. That, and I am trying desperately hard to learn Adobe CS4 so that I can get some work, pay off some bills, and start saving for a house.  Specifically, I have been working with Illustrator and Photoshop.
I’ve had a tough week. But things are looking up. I figured out some neat tricks and after I work through all my lessons, I think I can start putting a digital portfolio together. Here is a taste of what I am working on right now (Max’s 1st Birthday Invitations):
Birthday Train
This is the train that I created for Max’s birthday invitations. It is only the engine. I am in the process of figuring out what I want to do with all of the cars. I will have a coal one,  behind the engine, but then I don’t know what I want to do with the rest of the cars. We will see. I also did this background:
Birthday Invitation
But I don’t know if I am going to use this, or create a different background. I am having a lot of fun with Illustrator. I cannot wait to be able to do this stuff really well, and really fast.  I hope to turn these artist hand’s into a means to support my family one day. I really love this medium!
Here’s your dose of Max, since that is the real reason why you come here! Enjoy.
