Max Max Bo Bax

Banana Fana Fo Fax, Me Mi Mo Max -- Ma ax!
- The Name Game
Unfortunately, the Name Game was the only song that I have to go along with this post. And since I have decided that all of my entries are going to be fashioned after songs, I had to use this one!
So onto the the purpose of this entry. Last night, I started thinking about all the names I call my dear child and how this could negatively affect him later on down the line. Will a "Tinkie Winkie" esq name attach itself to my little pumpkin? Would he hate me forever because of it? Will he not know his real name and go to school thinking his name was some silly variation of the Real McCoy? Would his Kindergarten teacher call on Maxwell N. and get no reply, or be corrected by a small blond child who says, "I am so sorry Mrs. So-and-So, but my name is: fill in the blank. Why do we name our child one thing, just to call him or her a whole host of other names?

This also got me thinking about all the things that I call my child:
  • There are a variety of "B" names: Bubby, Bub, Bug, Buggy, Buddy, Bubsy, Bubbus, Buba, and Bubbisito.
  • There are a variety of "Max" derivitives: Maximus, Maxipotimus, Maxi, Maximoose, Big Max (courtesy of my father), Maxtastic, and Max Fantastic.
  • There are a variety of names that have to do with moods: Grumpus, Grumpy Bear, Grumpster, Captain Funny Pants, Smilerson, Smiley McSmilerson, and Happy Boy (not sure if the last qualifies as a nickname).
  • There are three names that go along with a particular squished up stretch move that he has been doing since he was a newborn: Squinch, Squinchy, and Squinchy Doodle.
  • And then there are the ones that go along with him being a boy, and innately being smelly: Captain Stinkopotomus, Stinkopotomus, Captain Farty Pants, Fart Machine, Stinky McStinkerson, and Poopy Pants.

I am sure there are more, and that there will be more to come. I just hope that none of the truly emabarassing ones stick, and that we don't scar him for life!
